Natural Hair Update

So as of December 13, 2011 I am officially 7 months natural. I fully intended to update for my 6 months anniversary; but I must admit that I have been extremely lazy when it comes to my hair. I have literally just been doing the bare minimum to keep my hair healthy. I saw this video on YouTube (<-- click here to see the video) about banding my hair to straighten it out, so I guess I will be trying that method soon. I have been wanting to try blowing out my hair but to be honest it just seems like tooooo much work so I was happy to find the video of an alternative. I have not been on camera in a while, so I will definitely try to make a video soon to give you guys a visual of where I am at this point of my natural hair journey.

Until then Take care...

Happy Holidays!

With the holidays season in full swing; I just wanted to take a moment to wish you and yours a very merry holiday season. May God Bless and keep you today, tomorrow and forevermore. If you know God keep him first in your life. If you do not know God, get to know him as your personal savior. It will be the best decision you make in your life. And always remember JESUS is the reason for the SEASON! Take care.

Beautiful things

In this bleak and lost world there are still many beautiful and glorious things that the good Lord has created.  The trees, the flowers and you and I. God Bless and TTYL!

The Science of Black Hair

So, I have been considering purchasing this book:

The Science of Black Hair: A Comprehensive Guide to Textured Hair Care

It came out earlier this year in around April and apparently it is all the rave. I have watched some reviews on youtube and read through some reviews on Amazon. Thus far, all of the reviews have been saying how great this book is. I have heard that it is really comprehensive and much like a text book specifically about Afro-textured hair. Which puts me in a place of wanting to see what this book is all about. I have read books before about "Afro-textured" hair, and let's just say that I was under-impressed. I think the only thing that I took away from those books is that it is best to use lye relaxers. As for this book it is supposed to go into depth about all issues of natural and relaxed hair from the basis of the hair structure to heat styling and maintaining healthy hair.

So this book sounds pretty interesting and I am thinking seriously about investing the $20-30 on this book to have a wealth of information at my fingertips about properly maintaining my hair as well as my children's hair.

If you read it already please leave a comment and let me know what you think!

Happy Monday!

Hey guys and Happy Monday to you,

Disclaimer: I will put this disclaimer out there that these are my personal feelings and if you do not agree then so be it, in this world we must learn to agree to disagree.

I guess now that weekend has come and gone I would like to say that my prayers go out to all of those who lost and sold their belongings due to the events of the weekend.  First of all, my thoughts and prayers are definitely with those in the Midwestern states who lost their homes, cars and belongings in the storms and tornados on yesterday. Also, my condolences to those who lost their loved ones in the events of yesterday.

Secondly, I would just like to say to those who sold all of their life belongs and/or spent or gave away their life belongings due to the predicted Rapture that was supposed to happen on May 21, 2011....I'm Sorry. I know that the nation is trying it's best to take GOD out of everything, but people really need to come into a relationship with the ALMIGHTY and learn the bible for themselves.  Because if they were to do that they would have known that the rapture was not going to be on Saturday and that instead certain events would have to take place first before the Son of Man could return. Also, they would know that no man knows when the rapture will be, not even Jesus himself.

So in closing, I would just like to say if you do not already know God come to know him and come into a right fellowship with him. Do not put your trust in what people say, but put your trust in what HE says.

Take care,

'Til the next post guys

Au Naturale...

Hey guys,

So it has been a minute...I know, I know *shaking my head*. But a lot has been going on. Life sort of has a way of catching up with you and keeping you busy.  Anyway, some of you may know that I have been vacillating back and forth about if I wanted to go natural or stay relaxed.  I know I always would say I loooove my relaxer and I still do, but I decided to cut my hair and go natural.

I cut my hair on May 13th, 2011 and I have not looked back since.  I transitioned for about 4 1/2 months and then I decided out of frustration to just cut it off.  Because my natural hair is soooooo curly (it's like a corkscrew) I was dealing with a lot of matting and tangles. Therefore, I did what I thought was best for MY hair. A lot of people thought that I was having a break-down and others just could not understand why I would cut off BSL to MBL hair off and start over. Well, my response has been it is just hair and overall it is my hair.

Because of others I started to question if I did the right thing or not.  But as I look back on it one full week later I do not regret a thing.  I have a beautiful natural hair texture and will be posting a video about it soon.  Because I cut of my relaxed ends does not mean that I will never relax my hair again. Because I still love my relaxers, but I am trying out something different with my hair and I hope that you guys will stick around and accompany me on my natural healthy hair and growth journey.

Til' next next time...

MAC-ed Out (Random)

Modern Cosmetics

Okay, so I Loooove Make-up Artist Cosmetics!!  But is it just me or are there prices subtly going up and they are coming out with collection, after collection, after collection.  I mean I am to the point where I am just tired of it.  In the recent past, I was one who would at least try to find at least one little thing from every limited edition collection to add to my own personal collection.  Are you serious???!!!  I am not sure how many collections they have come out with as of late...
-Peacocky
-Finally Flawless
-Venomous Villains
-Mickey Contractor
-Nicki Manaj Pink Friday Lipstick
-Champale
-Stylishly Yours
and not the mention the Wonder Woman Collection that it launching soon.

Is it just me or are these collections becoming tedious and exhausting.  I have to admit, with my B-day coming up soon I did splurge and bought quite a few eyeshadows from the Peacocky collection as my present to myself.  But that is it!!  I just cannot take it and seems that with every collection they are having unnecessary gimmicks.  For instance, the Mickey Contractor collection could only be purchased from select MAC stores or the Nicki Manaj lipstick could only be purchased on Friday for only 4 Fridays.  Believe it or not both collections sold out like hot cakes, along with any other limited edition collections. I love to be beautiful just as much as the next woman, but I just feel like MAC is getting a little ridiculous.  So as for me I am done with these fad collections for now because a lot of them are either repromotes or dupes for colors that they already have in the regular or pro line.  I mean there is not that many colors in the world.  Come on MAC???,,,!!!  I still love you though...just need a break!

Surprising protein conditioner

So I used this...

as my protein conditioner this week. I relaxed my hair two weeks ago and unfortunately due to lack of time I to

skipped my normal moisturizing deep condition. So today, I decided that my hair needed a pretty deep treatment

so I decided to use good old Mayo.  I mixed about a 1/2 to 3/4 cups of Mayo with Olive, Castor and Amla oils.

As far as a special treat, I threw in a spoonful of garlic paste to nurture the scalp and combat any possible

shedding from my neglecting my hair over the last couple weeks.

Results:

The results of conditioning my hair with good old Mayonnaise was great!  My hair felt soft and conditioned after I

rinsed out the mixture.  I followed that with two washes with Creme of nature shampoo (green bottle).  My hair felt

so soft I wanted to skip my moisture treatment but that would be pushing it.  In my opinion, Mayonnaise

conditions far better than some of the hair mayonnaise treatments and cholesterol's that they have on the market

today with are packed with fillers, parabens and chemical preservatives.  I would rate this treatment a 5 out of 5.
