False Advertising???

So I have recently been on the hunt for some 100% silk satin fabric; unfortunately I have run into a dead end. I think a lot of these fabric companies as well as these pop-up 100% satin bonnet companies are getting over on the consumer. I have noticed that a lot of companies market their satin as being top quality or top of the line and what I am finding is that this is not the case. Upon further research, I am noticing that at least about 90% of the companies that I have looked in to is selling polyester and marketing as 100% satin.

**The truth of the matter is the fabric is indeed 100% percent satin. Satin refers to how densely a interlocking fabric is woven. Satin itself is not an actual fabric. Therefore, you have a lot of fabric companies selling polyester fabric and calling it satin, instead of calling what it actually is and that is "polyester satin".

Now do not get me wrong I have nothing against "poly" & "ester" (lol)right. But I guess I am a person that never really paid attention to this type of stuff. I did not pay attention until I decided that I really wanted to make my own hair bonnet because I refuse to buy from some of these companies that are popping up selling these bonnets from 30+ dollars. I understand that one's time is valuable, but to sew two pieces of fabric together I think that is a bit much, especially since I am quite the seamstress myself.

The beauty supply stores around the place are not exempt from this matter. In fact they are some of the main culprits. It seems that these places are in cahoots with the manufactures of these products. A prime example is the so called satin bonnets and satin scarves that we buy all the time. These are definitely cheaply made, but it is an obvious step up from the cotton bandanas that I use to wear back in the day.

So basically, the key points that I want you guys to take away from this post is...

*Be an informed consumer...don't let these pop-up companies and stores get the best of you.

*If you are looking to buy satin type material or bonnet that is the REAL THING and not just pretty, make sure that they are selling 100% satin silk...not charmeuse satin, acetate satin, polyester satin. Satin silk is rather expensive, but you must decide what works best for your hair and your budget (I am personally going to make my own bonnet out of charmeuse polyester satin).

*Polyester satin is not bad for you at all. Polyester satin and silk satin look and almost essentially feel the same. If you saw them in a store, you probably would not be able to make out the difference unless you know exactly what you are looking for.

*Finally, these companies are not all bad. I guess I just hate when people use euphemisms instead of just letting people know the real.

I am done with my lengthy rant for now. I hope that you guys find this info helpful.

Take care & God Bless,

C
